1 GB – 10 GB Disk Storage

Hosting with disk storage space between 1 GB and 10 GB should be more than enough for starting even fairly large websites. Most hosting in this category only offers a limited number of domains and subdomains, so extra space may not be so important.

Although we had previously assumed this hosting was located Germany, the present address is given as the Czech Republic. The website clearly explains the services offered and charges for additional upgrades or add-ons, if required. The free hosting is valid for the lifetime of the domain and comprises 10 GB of disk storage space, unlimited bandwidth, 1 hosted website, 1 MySQL database and 1 email account. It will not accept the free domains mentioned on our front page. PHP appears to be available up to PHP 7.4 and all functions including .htaccess with mod_rewrite can be used. It should be a good choice for a large WordPress or other CMS site, except we are surprised that it does not appear to offer PHP 8.


InfinityFree

This hosting appears to be based in the Netherlands, but maybe linked to BYET (see below). It offers 5 GB disk space, unlimited bandwidth and  400 (?) MySQL 5.7 databases, PHP 8.2 with functions including .htaccess with mod_rewrite, 3 domains, free subdomains and knowledge-base support. The maximum single file upload size is 10 MB, but there is a script installer to set up CMS systems such as WordPress. The servers seem to be low on memory and patience is required. Free SSL can be obtained and requires renewal every 90 days. This hosting service provider doesn’t offer domain registration. The website administration uses the vistapanel, which may show some advertisements, but there will be no advertisements on the your website. Your site will be limited to 50,000 hits per day.

This German-based hosting has a very simple website and offers 1.5 GB of disk storage. The traffic is unmetered, but must have at least 1 visit per month. Low-traffic sites are free of adverts. It allows 1 domain, 1 subdomain, 1 MySQL database with phpMyAdmin, web FTP and emails on each account, but unlimited accounts. Originally, only PHP 5.4 was provided, but has now been updated up to PHP 7.3.  The server will allow .htacess to be used for mod_rewrite, password and index control, but we found that some scripts are not permitted. Free domains as mentioned on our front page are accepted.

As reported previously, the control panel is rudimentary and slow to negotiate. It has no file manager, but web FTP is available. There is a daily upload limit of 12 MB, after which speed appears to be throttled. We were able to install WordPress, but the subsequent installation of larger plug-ins was not possible, perhaps because of upload limits. We will try again to see if we can install WordPress. On earlier checks, it appeared that PHP is available only up to PHP 7.1 and would expect trouble with some WordPress plug-ins that have deprecated code. Also, unless the speed and upload limits are changed, it may only be practical for HTML sites. Support is good.

This USA-based hosting offers 1 GB disk storage space, 50 GB bandwidth, 5 domains, 5 MySQL databases, PHP Config, 5 emails, free SSL, and cPanel.. It would appear that unless domains are registered or transferred, it will be necessary to use a subdomain. It will not accept the free domains mentioned on our front page. The site states that PHP 8.2 is available. Their support is provided by iFast and is indeed fast!

This hosting is located in India and has an attractive website. It offers 1 year free with 1 GB disk storage space, 100 GB bandwidth, 1 domain, 1 subdomain, 1 MySQL database, emails, free SSL certificates and cPanel. You can choose from PHP 5.3 to PHP 8.0. You can create a free subdomain, otherwise it requires a domain registration, or transfer, so it will not accept the free domains mentioned on our front page. 24/7 support is available, but English language support is poor.

The ISPConfig control panel is comprehensive and you can select your PHP versions  including PHP 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 ,7.0, 7,1, 7.2, 7,3, 7.4, 8.0, 8,1 and 8.2. There may be limitations to using PHP scripts and .htaccess, but an installer is provided for WordPress and Joomla!.  For sites that expect a lot of traffic, the bandwidth may be a limitation. This hosting also offers very inexpensive paid plans that may be worth considering. The hosting is easy to work with and has good, fast support.

It allows 1 domain, 3 subdomains, 1 MySQL database and 1 email. The ISPConfig control panel is comprehensive and you can select your PHP versions  including PHP 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 ,7.0, 7,1, 7.2, 7,3, 7.4, 8.0, 8,1 and 8.2. It allows 1 domain, 1 subdomain, 1 MySQL database, but no email. It permits add-on domains, or will provide a free temporary domain name. On the cPanel control panel, you can select your PHP versions from PHP 5.6, 7.0, but later versions may be available. It appears to allow PHP scripts, .htaccess and mod_rewrite and has an installer for WordPress. For sites that expect a lot of traffic, the bandwidth will be a limitation. The hosting has fast 24/7 support.  Registration is presently blocked from several countries and ISPs.
